THE PROGRAM
4-H, in a nutshell
4-H is a national youth program run through university extension offices. In Tennessee, that is UT/TSU Extension. It gives kids like me hands on projects in things like agriculture, livestock, cooking, crafts, and leadership, all built around the idea of “learn by doing.”
Livestock projects like mine are some of the biggest 4-H offers. I do not just show up on show day. I am responsible for taking care of an animal, feeding him, training him, and keeping him healthy for months beforehand, and then I show what I have learned at a county show like the Henry County Youth Livestock Show & Sale.
4-H often works alongside FFA, Future Farmers of America, which is a similar in school agriculture program. Both organizations support kids like me who show livestock in Henry County.
